1. Get Your Gut Health in Check

When you reach perimenopause, you may experience frustrating feminine and/or digestive issues. But, not feeling your best doesn’t have to be the new norm. Your gut health literally affects everything else in your body. Think of it as the main “gateway” for taking in and processing nutrients.

Its other important functions include fighting disease and serving as a center of communication. And, a healthy gut plays a vital role in your mental health and overall physical well-being, from your digestive functions to the nervous and immune systems.

Routine Probiotic

A high quality probiotic is the key to a healthy gut. Routine Probiotics curates only the strongest, most effective probiotic strains tucked into a slow-release capsule to prevent nausea and ensure your body absorbs all that beneficial bacteria.

Plus, they top off their unique formula with ashwagandha, one of the few clinically studied herbs that can help ease stress and anxiety. And, Routine is always allergen-free, vegan, and free of GMOs, chemicals, and fillers.

Surprisingly, taking Routine Probiotics gave me a new and positive outlook on midlife wellness. Find out more about my results after taking Routine Probiotics for three years here.

2. Think About Exercise Differently

You may have been conditioned to think that slowing down and inevitable weight gain are normal aspects of aging. However, you shouldn’t have to suffer uncomfortable symptoms, feel lethargy, or gain weight just because your body is aging. And, while you might want to be a bit more mindful of your joints, you are certainly not ready for the rocking chair!

Although I realize that committing to an exercise routine is hardly a new idea, changing the way you think about exercise just may be! So, as I entered midlife, my workouts became less about intensity and more about movement.

In other words, it doesn’t matter what you do, just commit to doing something, and then do it often. This shift in the way I think about exercise (along with my probiotic regimen) has helped me shed 10 pounds in under a year. I’m back down to my ideal weight and boy does it feel good!

Channel Your Inner Child

With the help of a healthy diet and the right vitamin routine, your body can run smoothly. And, this means that an effective workout routine is definitely doable!

There are so many options for staying active, including walking, yoga, cycling, and weight training. So, find something you love to do! My current favorite workout is cycling. It’s makes me feel like a kid again and I work up a great sweat! And, if you haven’t found a favorite exercise yet, just get out there and walk! Walking everyday will help you to feel youthful and energized, and it boasts a multitude of wonderful health benefits.

3. Commit to Dry Brushing

Recently, I’ve been hearing about all of the wonderful results of using a dry brush to improve skin texture. So, after doing some research, I invested in a basic, but quality, dry brush to find out for myself.

What is it?

Dry brushing is the process of taking a dry bristled body brush and sweeping it over bare, dry skin. Done correctly, it feels amazing! It’s both relaxing and invigorating at the same time.

How do you do it?

Place the brush directly on dry skin and apply gentle pressure. Then, simply brush upwards in sweeping motions towards the heart. Begin at your ankles and wrists, and move in from there.

How often should you do it?

Experts recommend dry brushing 3-5 times a week. Some people find they enjoy doing it every day. But, I would recommend starting slowly and gradually work up to a greater frequency.

Results

I’ve noticed some pretty impressive results after several weeks of dry brushing, in combination with a quality anti-aging moisturizer. My skin looks more evenly toned, smoother, and more supple. Another interesting perk is how it leaves your skin feeling tingly and rejuvenated! After dry brushing, be sure to lather on an effective moisturizer for mature skin. My current favorite is Manuka Honey Cream. You can read more about this relief cream for dry, irritated skin here.

And, I feel more comfortable wearing dresses and shorts. Although this might seem like a small victory, it’s definitely a confidence booster.

Overall Benefits:

Detoxifies the skin

Regular dry brushing is an effective way to exfoliate rough, dry or maturing skin. It unclogs pores in the exfoliation process.

It may also help to detoxify your skin by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow or drainage. And, this may make it easier for your body to sweat and eliminate toxins.

Stimulates your nervous system

Dry brushing can make you feel better because it has the additional benefit of stimulating your nervous system. It can also leave you feeling tingly and even invigorated, similar to getting a massage.

Gives skin a more radiant glow

Removing dead skin cells can make your skin feel smoother and softer. It can also give your skin a brighter, supple, and more moisturized appearance.

Other lovely perks:
  • increases circulation and energy
  • exfoliates
  • helps break down cellulite

4. Choose Friendships Wisely

The people you surround yourself with define you. And, when you reach midlife, it’s important to identify who is truly good for your soul.

Admittedly, it can be hard to start saying no, or to change relationships at this stage of life. But as you get older, you don’t want negative people bringing down your vibrational frequency.

In midlife, you should have the clarity and confidence to be honest about who you want to spend time with. Remember, when you are selective and set boundaries in relationships, it signals a strong sense of self and high self-esteem.

You will have more positive energy when you surround yourself with uplifting people who truly have your best interests at heart.

And, don’t worry too much if your circle gets smaller. The will allow you to nurture deeper, more authentic connections with others. You will enjoy a greater sense of well-being in all of your relationships.

Limit Social Media Activity

This may be a bit difficult for some. However, limiting the time you spend on social media will enhance your life ten-fold. Keeping up with the birthdays, daily activities, and (let’s be honest) drama of friends and acquaintances can be stressful. And, it can also play with your emotions. Feelings of envy can be stirred up for no reason at all.

A simple post (that may not reveal the whole truth of a situation) may cause you to question your own life decisions. So, why put yourself through that? You can choose to bow out gracefully and do something more gratifying with your time! Start a blog, go for a walk, or even learn a new language.

Whatever you decide, learning something new will add value to your life and enhance the quality of your leisure time.

Take Control

Taking control of your life and how you age is fundamental to your future health and well-being. That’s why it’s so important to think outside the box. Get to the root of who you are and find out what brings you the most joy. Then, work from there. And, don’t forget to care for your physical body as well. When you look your best, you feel your best, too!
